"I help learners master concepts and lessons using proven methods of analyzing and simplifying complex problems. I can identify and help correct gaps in prior learning to assist learners in mastering more advanced topics. I enjoy teaching and seeing students gain knowledge and confidence. With Texas teacher certifications in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, I have taught in public secondary schools, colleges, and industries for 29 years. In this time, I have shown students practical applications for science and mathematics. I often tell humorous stories that relate to important topics such as Avogadro’s number and the Pythagorean Theorem. Along with formal teaching of science and mathematics, I have tutored several students individually in secondary math, science, computer skills, chemical operations technology, and measurement techniques in industry.
As a UIL sponsor, I helped students find ways to visualize new problems and then develop a plan for solving problems and eliminating extra information. I basically teach test-taking skills along with problem solving. I understand standardized testing and have been a professional test item writer for military and industrial tests. I use my knowledge of testing to help students study more effectively in anticipation of such tests.
I have taught in summer enrichment programs in science and served as a science fair judge on several occasions for Austin ISD. I have attended several teacher development workshops sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson Summer Physics Institute at Texas A&M, and Southwest Teachers Academy of Physics in Dallas. Each conference spawned new ideas for teaching science for better understanding by my students. I earned my BA degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Texas and my MS degree in secondary and higher education from East Texas State University in Commerce.
I have worked in industry as well as in my own electronics business, so I understand what employers are seeking in prospec" less...
