"Tutoring, I believe, is an individualized, collaborative process between a teacher and a student. The process is informed by the tutor's philosophy of teaching and enthusiasm for learning, and by the student's learning needs, skills, circumstances, and objectives.

I agree with the experts who say that the teacher should create a supportive, intellectually-stimulating environment, in which the teacher guides the student through the student's own learning processes to foster independent learning and discovery, and encourages the student to achieve academic success by becoming a more knowledgeable and confident scholar.

I began tutoring in New Haven while in college at Yale, and have continued my teaching and education activities through the years as: an adjunct professor teaching and tutoring at the graduate level for 17 years at a Law School; a tutor and director of a tutoring program at an Elementary School in Chicago; and director of interviewing Yale applicants from some schools in Chicago. My knowledge area encompasses writing, reading, grammar, U.S. history, European history, government, politics, civics, French, algebra, geometry, and literature.

Tutoring will be tailored to the student's current work to increase knowledge and understanding of content and process in specific subjects, while developing critical thinking capabilities, facilitating and effectuating improved analytical and expressive processes, and fostering a sense of responsibility and confidence. The conversation and dialogue which animate the tutoring process will provide the student with insight into his or her own thinking, studying, and scholarship.

I will provide a free consultation meeting, and require a 24-hour notice of cancellation. I encourage prospective students to contact me to discuss tutoring and to schedule sessions." less...
