I bring deep experience as a teacher, writer and editor to my coaching. My work as an educator includes twenty years as an English teacher in Manhattan independent and public schools, and a decade leading writing professional development for fellow teachers, and coaching high school students on their application essays. I came to teaching after a first career in publishing; I am the author of bestselling novels, short stories, and most importantly for a college essay coach, personal essays, including one for which I was awarded a prestigious Pushcart Prize.

I am a veteran at building relationships with students and their parents to facilitate peak work and take some of the stress out of this process. My expertise teaching all different kinds of learners allows me to tailor my work to a student’s learning style, strengths and areas for support. I have developed a large, flexible and well-tested toolkit of activities and strategies to help students craft admissions-winning essays, and strengthen their writing skills in the process.
