"Hey everyone! I'm new to the professional tutoring game, but not to mentoring others. I have worked with Girls on the Run and volunteered as a tutor for Spanish speaking students in inner-city Connecticut. I was promoted to leadership roles at both of my previous companies. I think this trend greatly exhibits my ability to lead and teach. There is nothing that brings me more joy at the lab bench than seeing someone on my team learn a new ability or figure out a difficult problem. Through work, I have learned to be an excellent coach rather than giving someone a solution. I am an adaptive explainer and will find a way to explain a problem that will help you understand it best.
On a personal note, I moved to Salt Lake City this past October for my boyfriend's dream job. I was pursuing my Masters degree at Johns Hopkins part-time while working as a full-time Team Lead-Scientist for an agricultural diagnostics company back in Portland, ME. I decided with the move that I would pursue my degree full-time and have added a concentration in bioinformatics to the degree (and will graduate this summer--wooh!). In my freetime I love to snowboard, mountain bike, backpack and do anything in the outdoors. I also have a lab-pit puppy and domestic long-haired kitten who are the loves of my life.
I have excelled both professionally and academically in the sciences. Though my career is focused on bioinformatics, I have an extensive background in all biology and chemistry. In my everyday life I am expected to know all of the basics of biology, biochemistry, microbiology and chemistry. I also have a major fascination with genetics and have focused on these studies in the past. Between undergrad and graduate school I have taken the highest levels of these courses.
Please reach out if you have any questions about my experience or my teaching style! I think I would be a great tutor for anyone in need of better understanding science. I live and breath science and want to pass on that passion to others." less...
