"Hi, I'm Emily! I graduated from Wesleyan University as a Phi Beta Kappa member with my Bachelor's in biology. For two years I was a course assistant for the introductory biology labs, and I loved helping students apply what they were learning in class to real-life experiments. When I first started my degree I quickly realized how helpful it was for me to explain concepts to other people. Being able to communicate your knowledge is the most crucial part of learning, and I want students to feel confident doing that. In the STEM fields good communication can sometimes be overlooked. Because of that, I am also passionate about helping others become better writers both in and out of the classroom.
My favorite areas of biology to learn and teach are ecology and evolution, but I have a broad education in the sciences. I know how daunting biology can seem, and I seek to help students truly understand it rather than resorting to memorization.
I spent much of my undergraduate education taking literature courses and writing critically about what I was reading. I have experience writing about both humanities and sciences in a variety of formats--essays, articles, blog posts, and even slideshow presentations. From organization, to grammar, to syntax, I collaborate with students to help them produce writing they can be proud of, and that is distinctly their own.
I want students to get what they want out of tutoring. Whether that means someone to explain concepts, assistance on homework, or an extra set of eyes on a paper. If you have any questions or want to schedule a lesson, please reach out to me." less...
