"I graduated from Boston College in May 2018 magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biology and international studies, and am currently pursuing an MSPH at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control. As an undergraduate student, I completed rigorous coursework in biology, chemistry, computer science, and political science. I also spent 2.5 years working in a computational microbiology lab, during which time I gained advanced skills in microbiology and computer programming, particularly in MATLAB.

I have recently returned to the Chicago area after completing a U.S. Fulbright Grant in Malaysia, where I worked as an English Teaching Assistant to design and execute English-learning initiatives for students aged 12-19 in a public secondary school.

My junior year of college, I spent a a semester studying abroad at La Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Quito, Ecuador. Having studied Spanish previously at both the high school and university level, it was during that semester that I gained fluency through full immersion, which included academic courses, such as Comparative Politics and Epidemiology, taken in Spanish with Ecuadorian students and professors. As a non-native speaker, I have experienced first-hand both the difficulties and rewards of learning Spanish as a second language.

I have past experience tutoring high school students in Spanish, teaching elementary-level science lessons, and mentoring college-aged women in STEM fields. Additionally, my freshman year of college, I tutored and mentored a third grader for 12 hours every week. I understand every student faces unique challenges in learning and expect to tailor tutoring sessions to meet each student's particular needs. This tailoring includes creating additional learning materials, including practice worksheets, quizzes, and educational games and activities.

A pair of homonyms can best sum up two key aspects of what I intend to achieve in my tutoring sessions: insight and incite. I want to" less...
