"Niovi is a graduate student in Biomedical Engineering at City College, NY, with her undergraduate degree in Biology and Anthropology from the University of Florida. She has been tutoring professionally for over two years with a variety of other companies, and has experience from a variety of roles, including forensic intern, museum technician and laboratory assistant. She has particular experience in tutoring in science and math fields, as well as test prep from elementary through high school, and focuses on students gaining a thorough (and if possible, intuitive) understanding of the subject at hand. She has also worked with students requiring special attention due to learning differences.
In tutoring, her focus is to make students feel comfortable with the material, and encourage them to develop creative thinking with a basis in solid fundamentals. The pace of tutoring sessions differs from student to student, and may run the gamut from focusing on a single subject in minute detail, with repetition until it's understood, to branching outside of the scope of the class and analyzing more complex problems for advanced students. In all cases, her goal is to see the "aha" moment in her students when it all comes together.
Niovi grew up in Chania, Greece and Pensacola, Florida, completed the International Baccalaureate program in High School, and has lived all over the east coast (with a special place in her heart for Boston). Her research interests are in bone biomechanics and osteoporosis. When not in class or working, she enjoys baking, collecting anatomically incorrect Halloween decorations and playing board games.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing how I can best suit your child's educational needs. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions, and we can set up a consultation call to see how we can achieve those. Resources are welcomed if the student has specific needs, but I also have a variety of materials with which to further illustrate points." less...
