"Ever since I was in college, I have known that I wanted to teach in some capacity as a part of my career. It all began when I got a job through Boston University doing ESL/academic tutoring at an after-school program in Chelsea, Massachusetts. I worked with adults young and old, as well as with their children. For the adults, their skills in reading, writing, and speaking English all varied, and while Spanish was the most common native language in the program, there were many whose native languages ranged from Swahili to Haitian Creole, which allowed me to work with people from diverse backgrounds and thus expand my worldview. For the children, most of them knew English quite well, but needed support in certain academic areas. Whether I was working with the adults or the children, what I loved most was seeing the look on their faces when they learned something new, or when something clicked in their brains. I am a very patient person, too, and I enjoy seeing people go through the process of learning new information, no matter how long it takes. I also love learning from the people I teach/tutor--especially the young people.

After finishing my degrees in Music and American Studies at Boston University, I moved to New York City with plans to work toward a career in arts administration. After beginning a graduate program in Performing Arts Administration at NYU, though, I soon realized that I still really wanted to teach, and needed to find a way to incorporate my passion for teaching into my graduate degree. I began to seek out teaching opportunities within the arts education field as a part of my arts administration degree--I took coursework in human development and education, observed classroom teachers, and even led choral workshops with singers young and old, as a part of my participation with VOICES 21C, a non-profit chamber choir. I now am a part of the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable Teaching Artist Affairs Committee, and plan to obtain my teaching certification in Fall 2020." less...
