"Hey, I'm Yamini! I graduated from Boston University with a degree in Medical Sciences and a minor in psychology, in a 7 year BS + MD program. I am currently a student at Boston University School of Medicine with an interest in pediatric neurology/neonatology.
Through my experiences both as a teacher and a student, I've learned that the way an instructor presents information matters more than the complexity of the subject. The right teacher can make a difficult subject fun to learn by being available for the students in terms of academic and moral support!
My extensive tutoring experience across a variety of subjects and ages has helped me learn how to cater my tutoring style to each student. Some students are visual or auditory learners, some learn best in a flipped classroom, and some learn best when they teach the material back. Working with children has helped me learn about different teaching and learning styles, and I have implement this knowledge by offering many different learning modalities.
My tutoring experience is diverse- I used to tutor in elementary afterschool programs, where I would tutor students in subjects ranging from elementary level math, reading, and science. Additionally, I have worked with middle and high school students, privately tutoring them in math and science, as well as college prep courses. I've also branched outside of academic tutoring, and spent many years as a dance instructor working with children aged 5-10 years, instructing them in the fundamentals of dance. Additionally, I've volunteered for years as a mentor/instructor for younger robotics teams in my neighborhood, developing curriculums to teach the basics of programming.
My priority is always the student's comfort and success, so I encourage any suggestions to make the experience more productive and beneficial. I am readily available throughout the day, and will typically respond within the hour. Please feel free to reach out to me with any additional questions! I look forward to working with you :)" less...
