I have a younger cousin, now eight years old, whom I have taught about letters, numbers, reading, and life in general. One of my favorite ways to teach him is by playing games or doing activities together. If I can make learning fun for him, he does not feel like he is at school. To him, we're just spending time together. I also have nieces who are three years old. We love to read books together, and I ask them questions about what we're reading. I have them count how many people are in the picture, or tell me what color Mickey Mouse's shirt is. It's fun, but they are learning. Asking questions encourages them to be observant and think things through.

I have never formally tutored someone, but I have been a babysitter for seven years. I was a counselor for a Church camp, in charge of a cabin of girls, as well as teaching a Bible class for kids seven and younger. I have also had experience teaching class at my church for kids of all ages. I love interacting with kids, having them participate in the lessons I teach. I never want a child to feel bored. I think it is important in a tutoring environment that a child feels as though he or she is spending time with a friend. Some of the most important lessons kids learn are taught to them when they don't realize they're being taught.

English has always been my best subject in school. I won the West Virginia Young Writers competition in my county twice, in eighth grade and in twelfth grade. I now study Communications at Marshall University. In my field, writing and being well-spoken is crucial to your success. Writing requires critical thinking, planning, and editing as you consider your topic, decide what elements of the topic you want to address, and put these items together in a way that flows easily and makes sense to a reader or listener.
