"My name is Jelilat. I have 16 years of professional experience working with children and families. My experience working with children expands from children in foster care with emotional and behavioral problems, children receiving services from district 75 schools, bilingual students and truant students. Simultaneously, I worked part time as a tutor for an agency contracted by the board of education. The program was designed to meet the academic needs of public school students deemed in need of additional academic services. I worked with students ages 6-21 in the academic areas of reading, writing and teaching critical thinking skills.

I have also worked with young adults in group settings, with a concentration on leadership skills. I have been able to coach many of my students during our working tenure. I love with closely with students in the home setting because it allows the partnership to grow between tutor and student. There are no distractions and the climate is controlled in the home. I am also comfortable being a tutor since the role entails dual roles. More often than not, the students look to the tutor as that and also a mentor. I speak Twi( Ghana), Yoruba(Nigeria) and working knowledge of Spanish. I am open-minded, assertive, strong, trustworthy, reliable and very dedicated.

English is a language that I am enamored with. My intense desire to expand on the language is due to the earlier years of my life. Where my escape from life was reading a nonfiction book or simply journaling. Those gateways allowed me to explore a world that I never knew existed. My admiration grew increasingly, as I fell head over heels in love with the dictionary. I challenge myself to explore new vocabulary, and have found that it is also an ice breaker for my relationships with the young people. I found children love to be challenged and the more I engage with the future visionaries, the more I aspire to leave that imprint. I am an aspiring wordsmith and an avid reader.
