"I got my start as a writing tutor in college when I worked in the writing resource center for two years, helping students of all backgrounds with their English assignments and creative essays. While my work throughout the years has not been specific to writing, I have found ways to nurture my love of language and keep my skills sharp through newsletter compilation, email composition, fundraising letters, campaign messaging, and non-profit communication roles.

When my two sons were recently filling out college applications, I was reminded how hard it is to be creative, concise and informative, in as few words as possible. So after working with them and several of their friends, I felt like I could draw on my skills in writing as well as my (renewed!) understanding that college applications are a point of stress between most teenagers and their parents. I find it enjoyable and rewarding to be a knowledgeable, skilled and objective resource for high schoolers who are looking for assistance in finding their own voice through writing in unique and captivating ways.

I have strong reading and writing skills and I am proficient in grammar/syntax/spelling/analysis/thought construction. I love to encourage writers to think outside the box and intertwine clever and catchy words, parallels, metaphors and thematic overlays to enhance their statements and stories.

I have been a volunteer in the Lincoln High School Counseling Center for seven years; I have been involved with Minds Matter (an academic mentoring organization for kids of limited financial means); I was an ASPIRE mentor and worked with a student who was struggling academically but wanted to go to college.

Filling out college applications can feel like pulling a boulder up a hill.
