"To quote Mark Twain, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug." Just as there is no perfect word, there is no one way to learn those words. When I first began to feel good about my writing was the day I stopped worrying about the "right" way to do it. It is when we get hung up on the particulars of a problem that we lose sight of a solution.

When I was younger I had a difficult time with my English classes, not because I didn't like them but because I got hung up on the rules. For this reason, I dreaded class and didn't try as hard as I could. Teachers checked me off as shy and because I scraped by with an average grade, they ignored the problem. As I grew older I found that my learning style remained unorthodox and unconventional and for a public school that is often a problem. Eventually I lucked into a few teachers who showed me the joys of reading.

After years of searching for the best career path I remembered something one of those "good" teachers told me, she said to "look inward to seek outward". I spent years looking for that perfect job when what I loved was always a pen's reach away. So I picked up pen and paper and began to write. Two years later I have a completed manuscript and I am enrolled in the BFA: Creative Writing program at Full Sail University.

My tutoring methods are geared towards an interactive and student-interest method. Kids learn best when what they are learning about is interesting or pertaining to them in a personal manner. For example: if a student is having problems with vocabulary then I might suggest adding note cards to everyday objects around the house. Or if the student has trouble with reading skills then I may suggest a game or activity that disguises the curriculum. By removing the obstacle of rigid learning, a child is free to express themselves in a way that is productive to their educational needs as well as for their futures." less...
