"I have 6 years of teaching experience in all subject areas as well as experience as a reading tutor. I am a certified teacher endorsed in reading who enjoys working with elementary students in small groups or one on one in a creative, hands-on teaching approach to ensure a solid understanding of the subjects being taught. Tutoring allows me to create a teaching style that fits each student based on their needs, skills and, interests. Tutoring presents a freedom that a traditional classroom does not. As a tutor, I am able to focus on increasing the skills and knowledge of the student in a fun and interesting way that may allow the student to see a subject or concept in a new way.

In teaching elementary math, I will use a hands-on approach that will allow the students to see the math concepts visually instead of just numbers on a page. Students will be shown ways to create their own tools that they can use in their classroom.

I have been through specific training in my Bachelors of Education degree program on new and creative ways to identify and improve reading skills all the way from the beginning reading stages of learning the alphabet to the more advanced stages or reading strategies and understanding what is being read. I was also a summer reading tutor with the United Way, seeing major gains in student reading levels over 6 weeks.

I am a certified Elementary Education teacher with a creative mind that enjoys thinking out of the box as well as doing hands-on projects and not just on work sheets. I was a homeschool student and I feel that has given me the ability to think outside the box and find different yet helpful ways to approach learning and teaching.
