"Hey there! My name is Jake G., and I have a different outlook on business and marketing than most marketers. But first, here are the "hard facts." I have a B.A. in Marketing from Missouri Baptist University with Minors in Business Administration and Religion. I've worked at a marketing agency focusing primarily on B2B industrial manufacturing companies for the past 3 years. Before that I was the Marketing Director for an ecommerce company.
I approach both business and tutoring from the practical, "real-world" side instead of the academic. I've learned way more about business and marketing through working at a world-class strategic marketing agency than I did sitting in a classroom. Not that the classroom is bad; no I love learning and will soon be going back to school to get an MBA. But I seek to bring knowledge of the real world to my teaching.
And no matter what the "business academia" say, business is about way more than creating a profit and maximizing shareholder value. I teach not only about marketing strategy, marketing automation, analytics, market research, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, social media, ROI, CRM, audience analysis, branding, and advertising, but also how to do all of that in a way to treats people more like, well, people.
Throughout my career I've struggled knowing what's next. What kind of job would I enjoy? Where do I find a job like that? How do I create a resume that stands out and gets me an interview? How do I negotiate a salary? Where do I go from here?
I've also learned that I'm not alone in asking these types of questions. Even people who seemingly have it all together struggle at times. We are living in a time with record levels of dissatisfaction with the work we do and the jobs we have. Engagement at work is falling while time spent at work is rising. How do we fix that?
