"Hey there! These past two years as a private Reading and Writing Tutor have been some of the most gratifying times of my life. I consider myself lucky to have tutored a variety of students, from middle school to early college. During my time as a private tutor, I have worked to perfect my student's skills in reading, writing, and vocabulary. I find that my students benefit most when they learn the skills of reading, writing, and vocabulary actively, and excitedly. I do not believe that education should be a boring, passive affair. I work to impart a sense of curious excitement to my students and diffuse it through all of the reading material. I've also had the pleasure helping a few of my students work through the college application process, which can be thorny and complicated without guidance. I know the Common App like the back of my hand!
I am currently a deans listed junior at NYU. I am studying Literature and English at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, with a concentration in Poetics and Aesthetics. During my time at NYU, I have been able to perfect my close reading and careful writing abilities.
My dream is to become a lawyer after college, and In 2017 I interned at the Queens District Attorney's Office where I was tasked with researching and writing briefs that were to be brought before a judge. That experience confirmed my feeling that reading and writing are invaluable and practical elements in any professional apparatus.
From my experience as a tutor, I have learned that approaches to education are as diverse as students are. Every program of study I undertake is individualized and tailored to the specific needs of each of my students. Ultimately, I believe that the job of the tutor is not to invent talents, but to discover them. I sincerely hope that I can continue helping my students to discover their knacks and talents.
