"My name is Geri and I'd like to tell you about myself. I am an experienced teacher holding a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Special Education. I am a certified Learning and Behavior Specialist with additional state certifications. I worked as a special education teacher for over 30 years. Recently my duties included teaching students, writing and implementing Transition Plans and IEPs. As a special-needs teacher, I have taught a variety of students i.e. physically handicapped, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, social/emotional, and intellectual disabilities. I have also worked in a private school and local districts as a pull-out Resource teacher with the specific responsibility of improving the skills of the students to meet Common Core curricular goals.
I am familiar with IEPs, 504 plans and tier learning. My many math trainings and practical experiences have included working with district curriculum books, PCI math, SRA math, Houghton Mifflin Mathematics, Pearson Math, Equals Mathematics, Touch Math and Everyday Math (University of Chicago designed).
Some of my reading/phonics trainings and practical experiences have included working with the Jolly Phonics Program, Project Read comprehension, written expression, and phonics (fashioned after the Orton-Gillingham reading model), Core Vocabulary (pics program), Words for Life (communication app), Proloquo (communication app), Char L intensive phonics, PCI writing and reading, Handwriting Without Tears, and Lindamood Bell comprehension.
In summary, I am very good at designing behavior modification programs and setting up study skills schedules, identify deficit areas, and remediating learning in a positive and motivating manner. Contact me so we can schedule some lessons. Love to hear from you soon!" less...
