"I love teaching and building a connection with my students. If learning isn't fun for me, I wouldn't want to do it either. "I love teaching and building a connection with my students. If learning isn't fun for me, I wouldn't want to do it either. I've taught in public, charter and private schools and have experienced all kinds of learners and thinkers. There isn't one teaching style that works for all children. I don't believe in teaching to a test. I believe in real life examples of learning. How much math, research, writing and science goes into planning a garden? A LOT! Real life connection to learning is my specialty.

I love to make math come alive. Work sheets are not my style. Planning a party with a budget, designing a playground for geometry, planning a road trip...all of these require math...sounds more fun than a worksheet doesn't it?

I have my Montessori certification and Montessori uses incredible language and grammar materials. Color coding, stories and manipulative materials help the hand teach the mind.

I have a diverse background and various experience with my teaching career. After attaining my Master's in Elementary Education, My first teaching position was in the Lawrence Public Schools. Fourth grade was the best! After several years in this system, I had the opportunity to move to the school that my boys were attending.

Teaching at a Public Charter school with a Montessori philosophy was a challenge. Hill View was a new school and many parents were not familiar with the Montessori approach to teaching. I stepped up to the challenge to educate not only the children, but parents as well. Although I love the Montessori approach, we were still held accountable to the Massachusetts standards of the Education Department. Funding and support for our school was a greater challenge than any of us initially thought. After Hill View I moved to a private Montessori school where I could focus my teaching on a philosophy that I felt was better suited for learning rather than teaching to a test. My classroom was a multi-age room with grades 4,5 and 6 learning from one another and child driven.
