"Hi, I'm Chandra!
I'm from Stone Mountain, Georgia, but received my undergraduate degree from Scripps College in Claremont, CA with a dual degree in History and International Relations. I just finished a year as an English Teaching Assistant in France, and I love traveling and exploring new cultures! As a teaching assistant, I realized I love supporting students one-on-one or in small groups. When my students were more comfortable asking questions or making mistakes, I realized they progressed exponentially. I'd love to provide your student with one on one help in English/Language Arts/SAT Writing, AP Literature, College Essay Writing, and French.
I have experience tutoring writing, grammar and essay composition. I scored in the 80th percentile on the SAT writing/language section, and took AP Literature in high school. I received a QuestBridge Full Ride Scholarship to attend Scripps and was a Posse Finalist for Bard College, thus I have experience writing college personal statements and scholarship essays. I would be more than happy to help your student draft or edit their college application essays.
I have also written a plethora of research papers and other essays on subjects related to history, international relations, politics, and gender and women's studies. So, I am familiar with tailoring my writing style to fit the desires of various professors, and can help you do the same!
I'm a huge Francophile, and have taken French classes since the 7th grade. I spent a semester as an exchange student at the Universite de Nantes, where I lived with a host family. I took all of my classes in French, and I'd love to help your student improve their speaking, listening, and writing abilities. I love cultures, and would incorporate, music, books, videos, news, and history into our lessons—tell me what works best for you and I'll find a way to incorporate it!

Education and Qualifications
I attended a writing intensive liberal arts university where I majored in a writing intensive subject—history. I've written countless essays where grammar, flow, syntax, and a sound argument were key to achieving an extraordinary grade. Before graduating, I wrote a senior thesis which was reviewed and graded by the chair of my university's history department. I'm familiar with the quality professors expect in research papers and can adapt my editing skills to fit your needs.
I'm also a pro at writing personal statements. While tedious, these statements and essays are key to accessing amazing opportunities. I received a QuestBridge College Match Scholarship, a full academic scholarship, due to my personal statement. I have received fellowships, grants, and internships from Teach For America, the Mellon Foundation, and Humanity in Action—all of which required lengthy application processes and stellar personal statements. I would be thrilled to help you or your student refine their college application essays, or scholarship essays to make sure they stand out!
Finally, I've been an avid reader since I was a child. Language Arts and English have always been my favorite subjects. As a student, I passed Georgia's End Of Course Tests in Writing and Language Arts with a score above the 80th percentile, so I am familiar with the needs of students in the Atlanta-metro area. I also attended a reading and writing intensive liberal arts university, and majored in a reading intensive subject: history. I'd love to help improve your student's reading level as a patient instructor!
