Thank you for taking the time to read what I know about tutoring students.

At one time, I was a NYS Certified teacher, Certified in English grades 7-12. Although I truly enjoyed the classroom experience of guiding a group to the desired goal of subject mastery, I had, prior to that time accepted the privilege of tutoring students one-on-one, who, for various reasons such as long-term illness or injury were unable to attend school for extended periods of time. These students were well enough to maintain academic momentum, and upon return to school were on grade level.

The experience of being taught one-on-one is, for most students, a surprising exercise in success. I, as the teacher am able at that level of focus, to identify any misconceptions or misunderstandings which the student may unwittingly hold, which have prevented him from attaining thorough knowledge of the subject, or have caused him to doubt his ability to rely on his own knowledge. Together, we examine the material to be mastered, and determine whether or not review of foundation material may be required. Together, we explore new material, and prepare for testing for mastery. Academic success is largely based on a student's confidence that he is indeed able to achieve academic success.

I love to teach, because I love to learn. I have been delighted to discover that in a non-judgmental, relaxed and focused atmosphere, where spontaneous discussion of subject material is encouraged, and the self-discipline to await lasting and long-term gratification is developed, the love for learning emerged in every one of my students." less...
