"I'm Sam H.! I graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with degrees in both math and music. There's nothing I love more than helping people learn! While I've tutored everything from calculus to history to writing to SAT prep to physics, I worked tirelessly on a music theory tutoring program at Yale, which has since blossomed.

I particularly love tutoring SAT prep and college application essays—for a somewhat unusual reason: I like getting students who feel overwhelmed, or who feel anxious with impending deadlines for such an important chapter of their life. Why? Because the most rewarding thing is helping a student transform themselves. Not just transform their knowledge or their skills, but also transform themselves into more confident and free individuals. There is so much psychology that goes into succeeding in what is the biggest life transition most people will experience in their youth. I am honored to have been a strong, holistic guiding force through that phase for many students thus far!

I have nearly seven years of experience tutoring math subjects, both as community service in schools and as an independent professional tutor. Beyond the SAT angle of math, I also have an extensive background specifically with tutoring Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus, and Calculus (both AP tracks, in particular.) My degree from Yale in math centered on high-level math concepts, including advanced complex analysis and abstract algebra, and I served as a peer tutor and grader for several classes in college. My tutoring skills therefore also extend to higher levels of math for the more advanced student.

The music department peer tutoring program at Yale was one of my primary focuses while at college. Over my Junior and Senior years, I logged upwards of 1200 hours tutoring my fellow students, working nearly every single day. Topics and needs ranged from music theory to ear training to higher-level analysis using Sonata Theory, Schenkerian Analysis, advanced modes of counterpoint, model composition, orchestration," less...
