"I am an English Instructor, poet, musician, and yoga teacher living in Sacramento, California. Since 1997, I have tutored students aged eight through sixty-plus in English literature and composition; creative writing; writing in all subjects; and music history, music theory, and flute.
Additionally, I teach English composition to adults online part-time for the University of Phoenix and the University of Arizona Global Campus. I began teaching at the college level in 2007, after earning my BA in English Education (2001) from Humboldt State University and my MA in English, Creative Writing (2004) from CSU, Sacramento. I also earned a second BA degree in Music, Flute (2010) from CSU, Sacramento.
I am a lifelong learner, having returned to college in midlife, as a sophomore after a 25-year break. The love of learning and the passion to become my best possible self compelled me to return to college, and I am so glad that I did! Working through my degree programs as an adult, a thirteen-year process, changed my life exponentially, resulting in enormous personal growth, the development of skills and innate talents, and many valuable new friends, mentors, and professional connections.
Tutoring is a way in which I can give others a hand up, give back based on all the good that has come my way in academia. It is also a method of teaching that I love since it allows me to tailor my instruction and support to each individual student. Tutoring is all about listening to the student, respecting him or her, and making a supportive relationship. You will find me patient and focused; I am eager to help you succeed." less...
