I am a retired, NC Certified high school math teacher. I have been teaching and tutoring AP Statistics since 2009 and I was an AP Reader (grader). I have successfully tutored hundreds of students in statistics. Most indicated to me that they improved their scores on quizzes and tests in the classroom and many have indicated that they received 4's or 5's on the AP Exam after following my test prep recommendations. Students often expect AP Statistics to be "an easy AP" since it is not Calculus. AP Statistics is, however, a deceptively difficult course. It is not a typical math course. It is more like a science course that uses math and the concepts are often not intuitive.

I can relate to both struggling and high achieving students. As a classroom teacher and as a private tutor, I have spent hundreds of hours tutoring those students who struggled to get the material in a classroom with 30+ students. In a one-on-one situation, they often flourish. As a high achiever myself - I was Valedictorian of Apex High School in 1968 and a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan School of Engineering - I can relate to the desire to make A's and the stress that arises when one has signed up for too many difficult courses at the same time. I have a talent for uncovering the true needs of individual students and helping them succeed. When tutoring, my focus depends on the student's goals. I am always cognizant of what the student may need to succeed in the class itself.
