"I graduated from University of Oregon in 2017 with a B.S. as a Mathematics major. During my time there I worked as a math tutor in the drop in math lab on campus for three years. I also gained experience with oneonone and group tutoring. The majority of my three years as a math tutor was spent working with students taking calculus and helping them to make sense of their professor's and textbook's explanations that didn't make sense. I have spent at least 1000 hours tutoring college students in math and spent that time perfecting my approach to help students gain a solid understanding of the concepts they needed to know for homework and exams.
Although I really solidified my understanding of calculus and precalculus topics by tutoring in college, my experience with precalculus and calculus started in high school. In high school, I took IB Math (standard level and high level) which was my initial exposure to different calculus topics. For those who aren't familiar with IB Math, it is comparable to AP Calculus classes. It was the advanced math class that I had available at my school. I did well in these classes, getting A's and B's in these math classes as I was learning the material for the first time. I eventually took and passed the IB Math HL exam with a score of 4, which is primarily about calculus but also has a few other types of math like trigonometry and statistics. Then in my first year of college I took honors calculus with the same level of success. This course was proof based and was about proving the concepts that I had learned to apply in high school. Of course, once I started tutoring in college I started really solidifying my understanding of all precalculus and calculus topics that I was a little shaky on when I initially learned them in the classes mentioned above. Since graduating college, I have also become the creator of an online website for math help.
I like to take a more casual approach to tutoring. I think that the best way to make sense of new topics is by talking abo" less...
