"I'm Amanda. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education for grades pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. I went on to get a Master's Degree in Reading and a TESOL endorsement to teach English as a Second Language. I love learning, and it is one thing I want to pass on to all of my students. Learning doesn't have to be boring! It can be fun and engaging, even when the material is difficult. Some of my favorite rewards of teaching is seeing students become engaged and excited about the material and skills, getting to know my students through conversations, and watching them gain confidence as they grow in their learning and knowledge.
I have experience teaching students of all grades from kindergarten through third grade. I also have been a literacy coach and worked with students in fourth and fifth grades. I have served as an interventionist throughout my teaching career where I would work with small groups of students, even groups of individuals on a one-on-one basis, to help them learn the skills and material with which they were struggling. In addition, I have also taught students of all ability levels, from gifted and talented to special needs, and students of all diversities and language acquisition levels. I have five years of experience in teaching ELL students who are learning English as their second language. I believe in having fun and engaging lessons, followed by a teacher-guided section, and ending with a time for students to do independent practice of the skills.
My specialized knowledge of literacy includes Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, English, Grammar, and ESL/ESOL. I have taught these subjects exclusively in the classroom setting and in intervention settings with small groups of students and on an individual basis. I am a member of the national TESOL organization for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages and was a presenter at the 2019 Arkansas TESOL Conference. Reading is the gateway to success, and I specialize in helping students achieve" less...
