"Hello, my name is Ayush A., and I am currently a medical student at UCSF graduating in the class of 2024. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering with minors in Business Administration and Electrical Engineering at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Having experience at applying to 30+ medical schools, crafting over 150+ personal statements and secondary essays, and interviewing at multiple top 5 institutions(Harvard, MIT, UCLA, UCSF), I have a comprehensive idea of what institutions look for in today's applicants.
I know how stressful the process can be. I realized quite early on that writing personal statements for admissions was drastically different from that of the normal academic essay format. Often, the techniques for how to properly write an application are not taught in the class. Think about this - do you think an application committee at XXX school wants to read a 5-paragraph essay about you, all with a proper introduction, supporting arguments, and conclusion that reads like a 16th century novel? NO! They want something interesting. They want something creative. They want something that is passionate and told in a manner which conveys that passion properly. In the end, the personal statement, activities descriptions, and resume you submit must convey a unified theme that resonates with the reader.
If there is one thing I learned from the application cycle, it is that every person needs a mentor who has been through the admissions process. I understand the ambiguity of the personal statement and how many students feel like it is a barrier that is difficult to cross. But I sincerely believe that, if done right, the story told within the application and during the interview can turn from a burden to an asset.
I have spent over 200+ hours crafting personal statements/resumes for students applying to college, medical schools, and MBA programs. Furthermore, as an avid public speaker, and having been through many rigorous interviews, I also provide robust interview skills." less...
