"I attended Northeastern University on the co-op plan which allowed me to take a half year to work in a field related to my major. As an Education/English major, I worked two semesters one year as a Teacher's Aide at a high school in Greater Boston, teaching mostly sophomores in grammar and American Literature. Two other semesters, in my senior year, I taught American Literature at a different high school to a Sophomore Honors class and a Senior General Education class. Both experiences allowed me the opportunity to teach to different age and academic levels. I particularly enjoyed the challenge to influence the growth and increased interest in learning from students.
I also have had extensive experience teaching Sunday School to elementary school- aged children for five years and had nine years experience teaching a variety of sports and recreation to members of a YMCA - ranging in age from 6 to 17. I also coached youth basketball teams for several years and I find coaching utilizes the same philosophies of "learning" as traditional teaching. My challenge with teaching in the church and sports settings were the same as in the classroom - to influence growth and increased interest in learning.
I had five years of studying and learning basic and advanced grammar principles at a college level and discovered that grammar options are best understood through reading and in conjunction with writing. I have written newsletters for three different companies, spanning about fifteen years and have written all my own website and marketing material. I have tested my own grammar usage by hiring experienced editor's to check my work. I have experience with unique and creative reading programs for elementary aged students and have taken speed reading courses that have provided me with some information I could pass on to high school and college students.
I am interested in tutoring for Bible studies for adults as well as children. I have a ministry specializing in Apologetics (defense of Christianity) and End Times prophecy and in the past I was a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, Director of Christian Education and a church Youth Director.
I was a senior executive with three staffing firms and had management responsibilities for hiring, training and coaching Recruiters, Salespeople, and several specialists. All of the companies had multiple offices so we had to develop organizational development plans that included career pathing and development for our employees. I have worked with dozens of adults in business on developing career paths that not only include their work life but also helping them develop their career through their hobbies, volunteer work and lifestyles. I've also worked with high school students I knew personally to help them decide on college majors based on interests, lifestyle preferences, and other factors. I think that most school guidance counselors are overloaded with work and that career pathing and college choices are often left to unqualified parents and inadequate test results.
I played basketball from age 6 through high school and then ran basketball leagues during my six years of college which entailed, organizing the teams, refereeing and coaching, Later, as a father, I coached three children from ages 6 to freshmen year in high school in basketball leagues. All three were on "travel" teams for three years of middle school and I coached their teams in a town recreation league as well as their travel teams. I am an avid college and professional basketball fan and know the rules, strategies and teaching techniques.
If you contact me for lessons in any of my specialties I will assure you that you'll get quality instruction and attention and I'm a positive person and easy going, so you'll be at ease regardless of your age. I've worked with all age groups and love to see people succeed." less...
