"Hi! My name is Amiel, and I recently graduated magna cum laude from Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Feminist Studies. I earned 2 awards for my work in anthropology. In 2018, I was named a Mellon Undergraduate Fellow in Anthropology, and in 2020, I was awarded the Gwen Kennedy Neville Award for Anthropology for being the department's outstanding senior.

For the past 3 years, I worked as a Peer Writing Consultant at the Debby Ellis Writing Center. I have assisted over 130 student writers from different backgrounds and disciplines in developing their writing skills. I can help students with anything writing-related, including grammar, organization, sentence structure, citations, and transitions. I’ve also edited and given writing feedback on college seniors’ grad applications. In this way, I’ve helped seniors get accepted into Harvard University’s Divinity School and Rutgers’ and UT Health’s biostatistics programs.

3 words that describe my approach to tutoring are: communication, engagement, and patience. You can expect me to ask you lots of questions so I can better understand your goals and how best to assist you with your assignment. I also try to be honest and direct when giving feedback. As a writer myself, I know how hard writing can be; that’s why I endeavor to be patient when I am working with students. Helping them through their writing journey and seeing them meet their goals is something I celebrate. As a student writer I've helped in the past said, “Amiel is great. I just needed someone to talk my paper out with, and she more than helped me. I would have been very, very overwhelmed without her.”

Because of the pandemic, I’m only doing virtual tutoring at this time. Please feel free to contact me with questions. Stay safe and healthy, y’all!" less...
