"Hi!

I'm Debra, and I'm an English geek who would love to help you get a better grasp on your skills in reading, writing, grammar, critical thinking, electronic research, and literature! I hold a Master's degree in English (4.0 gpa). I graduated summa cum laude (4.0) with a Bachelor's degree in English and a minor in Women's Studies, and, prior to that, I earned an Associates degree in General Studies. I've been an adjunct college professor for more than two decades, teaching English and Communications courses (writing, grammar, linguistics, literature, research, critical thinking, business writing, technical writing, and more).

I've privately tutored for the past 25 years and have worked with students of all ages--from kindergarten to post-secondary students and professionals. I was a non-traditional student who returned to college at age 31, so I understand the pressures you may be feeling if you're an adult learner. As a former military spouse, I also can identify with the challenges military families face in bridging gaps in education. I know that some aspects of English can be frustrating to learn. After all, English isn't a precise and consistent language. But it can be fun to learn, and making it fun and understandable is part of what makes me a great tutor. I've received numerous awards for my skills in English and for my teaching, so you can trust that I am a subject expert and I know how to help you.

I approach tutoring as a collaborative effort, and I can help you identify skills you can leverage to succeed, skills you can improve quickly, as well as those you can work on improving over longer periods of time. I won't leave you floundering to figure out how to do that, though. I'll be your learning PARTNER! For problem areas in your work or lack of understanding about a subject, I'll explain and clarify for you, we'll work together to solve your academic challenges, and then I'll point you toward resources you can use when you're not in the tutoring environment with me.
