"Hi I'm Mike. I was a high school math (geometry) and science (mostly chemistry) teacher for ten years, and enjoyed it very much. I especially enjoyed interacting with my students with humor and kindness and teaching them subjects that I found very interesting and trying to make them interested in and knowledgeable about the subject being taught. I put a lot of thought into how best to explain what I was teaching. After leaving teaching I had a variety of jobs that always involved math and often involved statistics. Often those jobs had an educational component as well, with me explaining various aspects of our work to people working with and for me.

I am well-qualified academically. I earned a bachelor's degree in General Science (with honors) from the University of Oregon, a master's degree in Biology (emphasis biochemistry) from MIT, a master's degree in business (MBA) from the University of California at Berkeley, and an unfinished doctorate in Science Education from Stanford University (all coursework completed and dissertation proposal approved).

I love math, and I love helping others understand it. I taught high school geometry for only one year, but my entire professional career has involved mathematics, at times including probability and statistics, even a little calculus, and I am good at it. I hope you will let me help you to understand and appreciate the subject and level of math for which you seek help.
