"As a tutor, my most experienced fields, as well as the ones I enjoy working in the most, involve the high school and college level maths and sciences. More specifically I excel in tutoring algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, astronomy, and computer science.
I attended the Colorado School of Mines for college for four years, and during my last years there I worked as a tutor for Academic Services to help fellow Mines students. I was also the instructor for a short summer Calculus course during those years as part of a summer camp introduction to engineering for minority high school students. Since college, I have participated in volunteer high school tutoring, and have done many private tutoring sessions with various students ranging from middle and high school math and science students, to college level calculus and physics students, to continuing education adults who need a refresher.
I do not give out answers, I believe in guiding the student to the correct answer. I begin by reviewing the course material and understanding the student's knowledge on the topic, so that I can understand what particular approach their course instructor is showing them, and then I will adapt my tutoring style to try and match it. If this first approach fails, then we begin to look at different ways of understanding and working through a problem. Different students learn differently...some are more visual learners, others are better at brute force memorization. I believe in working through different approaches until we find one that works the best for the student.
I am also a certified private pilot, I play piano, and I love computers, music, science, and especially astronomy." less...
