"Hi, I'm Andie! I'm a Masters of Education Candidate in Southern California with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, a minor in French and a TEFL certificate. This May, I will be receiving my credential in Multiple Subject (elementary) education. I have been teaching for over 7 years- elementary education and English as a Second Language. I have taught in France, Taiwan, New Orleans and California. I have a passion for teaching, learning languages and travel. I truly don't understand how anyone can be anything but a teacher. There is nothing more gratifying than helping someone to learn something new.

I am Mexican and was raised bilingual (Spanish and English) in Southern California and have learned other languages over the years: French and Mandarin Chinese. I have taken courses and studied to a lesser degree: Italian, Arabic and Russian. All that to say, I know what it's like to learn a language, what works and what doesn't. I have seen the benefits of learning a language. There is nothing more fun for me than to share my culture through language and to help my students feel confident in their ability to speak.

I would like to specify that my teaching style for Spanish is not like other teaching styles. I use VERY little worksheets, etc, if at all. I do NOT use textbooks. I use comprehensible input for the most part and I focus on conversational Spanish at least initially. I do this because I have found both in my learning of languages and teaching them that it is the most effective. I also love to include games, visuals and videos. In addition, I focus on Mexican Spanish.

Spanish was my first language, I spent countless summers in Mexico immersed in the language my whole life. I read books in Spanish as a child voraciously. I am still very much connected to Mexico and go there often so I feel that I can offer Spanish learners an insight into Spanish today as well as culture today in Mexico.
