"Hello, I'm Jennifer! I graduated magna cum laude from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work with a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Human Services and a concentration in Psychology, as well as a dual minor in Gender Studies and Art Therapy. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Massachusetts with 15 years of professional social work experience. I also have 2 years of experience as an elementary school teaching assistant, and 3 years of experience tutoring elementary school students who are on individual education plans (IEP). Furthermore, I have one year of experience teaching graduate students, abroad and in the USA, international social work with a focus on HIV/AIDS education in Uganda, Africa.
As a social worker, I love connecting with people and helping others is my passion. I love teaching and tutoring because I truly enjoy being part of the learning process. It's extremely rewarding to help my students fully grasp new concepts and then be able to apply their knowledge to their studies with confidence!
I want all of my students to be successful in school and enjoy learning. Therefore, I am always open to new suggestions and resources that my students, teachers or parents may want to provide. I make my lesson plans interactive, fun and creative with a focus on mastering challenging material. I employ the use of props, games, online educational resources and platforms. I also use educational handouts designed with specific techniques for maximizing learning based on style, breaking large assignments into smaller more manageable tasks, and teaching effective study, time management and organizational skills.
For students with IEPs, upon request, I will provide the following additional services:
1) Communication with teachers via email or phone for clarification on assignments, as needed
2) Provide recommendations to teachers for special accommodations, based on learning style
3) Advocate for students, when appropriate," less...
