"Hello,
I hold a Bachelor's degree from Oberlin College, a liberal arts and music school in Ohio. I enjoy tutoring students of all ages in reading and writing, because I believe these skills are essential to get ahead in this fast paced world. My students will improve reading comprehension while gaining general knowledge. Learning new vocabulary words will expand the student's potential for successful job performance in the future. I would encourage the student to choose material that interests them, because they will be more motivated to work hard. I am an avid reader, and I want to share my enthusiasm!
I am also a violinist in two orchestras: the Pinellas Park Civic Orchestra (I'm the concertmaster), and the Suncoast Symphony Orchestra. I have taught violin lessons and groups for 25 years, to children as young as 4 years old. You're never too young or old to learn! I understand that the violin is one of the most difficult instruments, so I am patient and encouraging. Fundamentals are taught first, and new skills are added as the student is ready for them. For a very young child ages 4-5, I use the Suzuki method: teaching the pieces by ear, before teaching note reading. For ages 6 and up, I teach how to read music. I have high standards and expect diligent practice. Music soothes the savage beast, so why not soothe our own souls!
Over the years, I have been a pre-school teacher, a childcare giver and I am a mother of three. My oldest is working on her PhD, and the other two have graduated college and are working. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and skills. I have a lot to give!" less...
