"I recently retired after over two decades of teaching in order to move to another state to help take care of an aging relative. My favorite part of teaching has always been identifying the way each student learns best, tailoring my instruction to them, and using those insights to empower them to become more effective learners. My lessons always include approaching each concept in a variety of ways, building deeper understanding and being sure that understanding is solid before moving on to build on the concept. As a student I came to love learning and as a teacher and tutor there is nothing so satisfying as to pass on some of that love of learning to another person.
I have single subject credentials from the State of California in biology and in general science which qualify me to teach through the community college level. I have taught the whole spectrum of earth, physical and biological sciences. In addition to my classroom experience, I have been fortunate to participate in internships and fellowships in a variety of science labs and science related professions, including neuroscience, genetics and cell biology labs, in industry positions in aerospace and semiconductors, and with a preeminent world-class Science Museum. I helped my district implement the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) which are now in place in most of the 50 states.
Whether you are feeling overwhelmed with the complexity of cell processes, stuck on chemistry concepts, or want to be more confident solving physics equations, or just about any other area of science, I can offer you fresh ways to look at the material and suggest things to try that will help make sense of it all. I love answering questions and sharing the keys to understanding science. Let me give you a hand!" less...
