"My most common tutoring subjects are Algebra and Praxis Core Math, but I also tutor other levels of Math, Music (Instruments and Music Theory), and Hebrew. I’ve been tutoring for over fifteen years, and I’ve been a classroom teacher in Math, Music, and Hebrew for over ten years, in Baltimore private schools, and previously in Philadelphia charter schools and in New York City public schools. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a Concentration in Violin Performance and a Minor in Mathematics from Goucher College, and I hold a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from CUNY Hunter College. I have also spent time studying in Israel, and I hold a teaching certificate from the Israeli Ministry of Education. As a math teacher and tutor, I primarily focus on upper middle school levels, especially Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1; however I have tutored math students from elementary level through college level Calculus 1, with a heavier focus on Praxis Core Math (and its equivalent in other states). As a musician, I enjoy playing and teaching many different musical instruments, including violin, viola, cello, guitar, ukulele, recorder, piano, flute, trumpet, and more! Music Theory combines music and math, making it twice as fun to teach! I love finding creative ways to explain concepts in a clear and relatable way that is customized to a specific student. My style includes breaking things down into smaller pieces, seeking out and building upon prior knowledge and familiar components, and favoring logic and reason over memorization. Additionally, learning a concept from several different angles allows students to understand it more thoroughly and then to choose their preferred method. When preparing for standardized tests, I find that analyzing all the answer options in multiple choice questions allows students to understand how the questions are written, and how the test writers predict common mistakes and try to trick us!
