"Hello, I'm Brian! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Niagara University. Since then, I have gathered two and a half years of teaching experience. I first worked at a charter high school as a TESOL long-term substitute, then I moved on to a full-time teaching position working with middle schoolers, where I am currently employed. I find that I work best with older students, however, as my skillset is more angled towards finer writing skills and preparation for speaking English in the professional or academic realms. I love working one-on-one with a student who is serious about learning. My favorite moments in teaching are when the student asks me questions that challenge me in ways I didn't expect, which results in a positive learning experience for both myself and my student. My personal teaching style is open- I want students to feel comfortable approaching me with any and all questions.
I have very diverse teaching experience. As a career teacher, I have 2.5 years experience teaching in classrooms ranging from 3rd-12th grade. My students in these areas are usually immigrants, newcomers to the country or people who do not speak English at home. I work with these students closely to ensure that grade-level content is made accessible, regardless of English proficiency. Because many of my students are older and have been in the country for some time, most of the work I do with them is on writing and grammar skills. As a part of my bachelor's program, I took grammar theory courses and consider myself proficient in all English writing conventions. Additionally, I started a video productions and student government club, both of which rely heavily on speaking publicly to an audience. To this end, we focus on a speaker's presence in the room, audience engagement and clear delivery of a message.
If you are struggling in any area of learning English, please, reach out to me! I can tutor English to learners of all ages. Currently, my availability is limited to" less...
