"Hi, I'm Lisa! I am a dual certified teacher in CT and NY with current certifications in Elementary Education (grades K-6, all subjects) and Secondary English (grades 7-12). My undergraduate degrees are in Elementary Education and English, both from UConn. I also received my MA in Curriculum and Instruction from UConn, through the Neag School of Education. I come with a diverse range of teaching experiences, all the way from Pre-K through college students. My passion lies with students in the upper elementary to middle school grades. I have taught in different areas of Connecticut and New York in both suburban and urban districts. I have experience working with emergent bilingual students, especially in the primary grades. In addition, I also taught internationally in London, UK, working with secondary students with mental health challenges. I have worked with many populations of students: students with disabilities, gifted students, students below and above grade level, and students who speak English as a secondary language.
I currently am a middle school Humanities (English/Language Arts and Social Studies) teacher for students in 6th through 8th grade. My school is located in the heart of Harlem, NYC. I have privately tutored for over seven years.
I tutor English, Writing, History, all subjects of Elementary Education as well as test preparation for the SAT, ACT, PRAXIS, ISEE, SHSAT, and more. I work on improving study habits, test- taking, and enjoying the learning process. I have extensive background in reading/writing instruction, and I have directly seen the foundation that literacy can bring to an individual's educational trajectory. I have also worked with students in application essays and college essays. I have helped students structure their essays, edit their work, and finalize it until it is a piece they are truly proud of.
I believe that every individual is capable of achieving their academic goals with the right learning style suited for your unique style. I am prepared to make our sessions" less...
