"Hi there! My name is Alana and I'm excited to be your tutor! I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language, Culture and Literature, with minors in Business, Music, and Latin American Studies. Following that, I completed a Master of Arts in English, specializing in teaching English to speakers of other languages and rhetoric and composition. Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to have many travel opportunities where I've been able to cultivate lasting connections as well as improve my language skills. Most notably, I was able to participate in a teaching abroad program in China while completing my Master’s degree. There, I team taught local middle school-aged students with my fellow graduate students using songs, stories, games, and idioms to teach English vocabulary and pronunciation. When I returned, I became a Writing Center tutor on campus, tutoring both undergraduate and graduate students in essay writing and project proposals.

Through all of my experiences, the two things that stay constant are my compassion for and my dedication to a student’s needs. I strive to go above and beyond students’ expectations and look for every possible way to help a student succeed. I will listen intently to what you identify as areas needing improvement, and address any and all questions you may have. Most importantly, I want every student who leaves a tutoring session with me to have a positive outlook on the content we discussed, and feel more confident after the session than they did coming in.
