"Hi, my name is Ellen. I taught high school math, generally algebra and geometry, for 25 years. I was very successful with test prep. I love learning and, beyond test prep, I obtain satisfaction in seeing my students grasp the concepts, learn, and gain deep understanding of the subject matter.

My undergraduate degree, with honors, was in history with a minor in economics. History was my first love, but most of my teaching experience was in mathematics and I came to love and appreciate its logic and beauty. I am licensed to teach Mathematics, grades 7-12, Social Studies, grades 7-12, and Elementary Education. I have taught, and tutored, in all of my license areas. I have also helped students, especially ENL (English as a New Language) to gain English proficiency and polish their writing in English. My goal, with those students, is for them to reach a point where they won't need me. I have also tutored adults to pass the High School equivalency exam.

I am an outstanding Math tutor: I am able to explain concepts clearly, zero in and clarify areas of confusion, and help students to understand why certain math algorithms work. I try to convey my love for the beauty and utility of math, in the hope that they will come to share my feeling. I am particularly successful with test prep., both during my high school teaching career, and as a private tutor. During my high school career, in addition to my regular class schedule, I ran the after school math tutoring program.
