"Teaching in the Public Schools
I am an experienced teacher that has taught in the public schools for over three decades at virtually all grade levels, though the majority of the years were at the elementary level - mostly fourth and fifth grades. I also have taught remedial reading and writing at the middle school level, and social studies (current world problems and US history) at the high school level. As a remedial reading and math teacher several years in the elementary, I gained experience with all grade levels from kindergarten to fifth grade.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Self-contained Classroom
The majority of my teaching was at the fourth or fifth-grade level where I taught in a self-contained classroom, meaning that I taught virtually all subjects -- including art, music and PE if there weren't specialists in the school where I was at the time. I taught reading/writing/language arts (which included spelling) and math mostly, but also penmanship, social studies, and science.
Remedial Reading Teacher
I have taught as a Title I remedial teacher for five years in four different settings, which ranged from kindergarten to fifth-grade as well as middle school level. At times, I also taught remedial math - both as a Title I teacher as well with various summer school settings.
Social Studies Teacher
I taught as a high school social studies teacher -- current world problems with seniors and US history with juniors. I also worked with fourth and fifth grade students to introduce and have passed two concurrent resolutions in the Idaho state legislature, with our students giving the opening debate in the House and Senate committees on both occasions. They also met with two US senators, four US House of Representative members, and three governors -- even hosting one governor and one US representative in our classroom. I also interned in Congress for a summer -- working back in Washington, D.C. in the congressman's office. I also have traveled, am certified in Spanish and French, and lived in other cultures (as a Pea" less...
