"I'm an alumna of Middlebury College, a school known for its liberal arts focus and strong language programs. I majored in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and minored in Japanese, and I worked as a writing tutor there for two years. I have been both a drop-in writing tutor and an academic mentor assigned to a class. In the latter case especially I always worked to build relationships with my mentees so that I could help them build skills and learn writing strategies in addition to just working on their current assignments.

In addition to my formal tutoring experience, I have been a volunteer music teacher for elementary schoolers for a summer bible school in my area for several years, through which I have developed strategies for helping younger children learn effectively while still having fun. I really enjoy helping my students learn new things, especially if they can take away those skills or lessons and apply them in real life situations! It's one of the reasons I love languages.

I have four years of immersive study at Middlebury College, known for its intense and effective language education. I received the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N2 qualification in December of 2016, and am a member of the Japanese National Honor Society. I lived in the Japanese House on campus (where housemates speak only Japanese in the house) for one year and hosted informal teaching events about Japanese language and culture for younger students, and continued to attend these events and act as a mentor to those new to the Japanese language through my senior year. I have worked as a transcriber and linguistics research assistant for a professor working with animated Japanese movies, giving me deep technical knowledge of the language, and have literary translation experience (Japanese to English).
