"I attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison on a full Air Force ROTC scholarship, graduating with 153 credits after 8 semesters. Though my degree is in Russian, I also have extensive experience with other languages, and am fluent in Spanish. In college, I took many more math and science classes than necessary, though I did not do well in math in college. However, since then, I have continued working on math, including taking a differential equations class at the University of South Florida - Tampa while stationed at MacDill Air Force Base.
In 2009, I decided to become a high school math teacher, and quit my supervisory job at a branch of an American manufacturer supplying the petrochemical industry to qualify as a math teacher in Texas. Eight weeks later, I took the appropriate Texas test, and scored 92.67% correct on my first try on the test. For me, this was an achievement, since even prospective teachers who majored in math in college often need more than one attempt to pass this test. While teaching at a nationally-famous high school in western Texas, I was typically assigned the district's most academically unsuccessful and frustrated students, whose respect I earned by placing their well-being and success ahead of other concerns. My students very consistently praise me for my concern, and my ability to break down complicated subjects so they can understand it. A typical comment is that I am the only teacher who ever made math make sense for them, or the only one who made them understand math in many years.
I am a graduate of the elite US Air Force Fighter Weapons School, where I received graduate-level training in developing and tailoring training programs, and in learning to focus on the needs of the people I serve. I am trained to ensure that success does not happen by accident, but rather, that it happens by design and is repeatable and flexible. Of course, the real reason for my successes is that the Lord has prepared me for what He wants me to do, and especially blesses my endeavors to help young people not just with academics, but in life. Though my degree is in Russian and my certification is in high school mathematics, my background as an intelligence officer and intelligence weapons and tactics instructor, as well as subsequent work as a political consultant and in business, allows me to help students understand diverse topics, including world history, US government and politics." less...
