"I have been reading and writing since I was very young, and I love using my own knowledge and experience to help others. I was a high school English teacher for two years (11th grade) and a substitute teacher for four years before that. I am no longer a full-time teacher as I have chosen to pursue a different career, but I am still passionate about teaching. I am AP Lang certified and am especially knowledgeable of the standards and expectations of that course, but I have privately assisted students of various levels with essays and reading assignments, including college students. I do not have a lot of experience working with elementary school students, so if you are a parent looking for someone to teach a younger child the absolute basics of English, I am probably not the right teacher for you.

I have published writing in various mediums - fiction, news articles, and more, and would be happy to help you with any kind of writing at all. I try to teach reading and writing as organically as possible. I believe that a student needs to fully understand the goals of writing an essay or reading a complex text before they can succeed at these things, and I believe that is better to explain the logic of reading and writing than to simply state the "rules."

As a teacher, I look for my students' weaknesses and help them develop strategies to overcome them so they can become better writers long-term. I look for my students' strengths as well, and make sure they are empowered to use them properly.
