"Hello, I am an AMI certified Montessori primary (ages 3-6) and elementary (ages 6-12) teacher and I have taught for over 10 years. I have a special interest in working with children with learning differences and have certification in special education.

The hand is the instrument of the mind and I believe handwork is very important for development of the brain. I am a certified knitting and crocheting instructor and able to teach a variety of fiber and needle arts. I believe handwork can be as important developmentally as any other academic subject.

I have a true lifelong love of learning and love to share my passion with my students.

Grammar is very important in Montessori education. The curriculum focuses on learning the parts of speech and understanding how they function in a sentence.

I believe that children should learn to write in cursive. Cursive is a much more natural movement for young children. Once children have mastered cursive, print is very easily learned. There are many studies that demonstrate that cursive is more appropriate for young children and stimulates the brain. Additionally cursive is shown to improve brain development in the areas of thinking, language and working memory.

I have taken 30 credits to be certified special education In the state of Maryland. Additionally I spent two summers studying Montessori Inclusive Education the the Montessori Institute of San Diego.

I am a certified knitting and crochet instructor. Needlework has been a part of my life since I was a child. I can also teach sewing, quilting, basket making, and weaving, as well.

I look forward to working with your children and helping them build the knowledge and skills which will serve them through their lives." less...
