I graduated from Hopkins School (New Haven) in June 2019 and am an admitted student in the Georgetown University Class of 2024; I chose to defer my acceptance and take a gap year until August 2020. French was my passion in high school; I received the Tom Betts Senior Prize, awarded by the Connecticut chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French, in the spring of 2019, as well as Hopkins's award for distinguished study in French at the end of the year.

I am spending the better part of this year in Toulouse, France, teaching English as a volunteer. From September 2019 to April 2020, I am working with classes in multiple grade levels at école Notre-Dame des Anges (elementary school), Collège Marengo (middle school) and Lycée Sainte-Marie des Champs (high school); I present cultural topics of interest concerning the English-speaking world, lead the class in oral exercises, and facilitate discussion workshops and projects in small groups to assist the students with their English fluency. This has afforded me experience in language instruction to all under-18 age groups. Additionally, in September, I passed a B2-level French course at the Institut catholique de Toulouse.

I will be returning to Connecticut and will be ready to begin working with students of French by April 20, and will be available throughout the summer.

Even though I began my study of French in middle school with a pre-existing interest in language and international cultures, it was a series of outstanding teachers who made the difference in inspiring me to specialize in French. Drawing on both their methods and my experience of teaching English to Francophones, my methodology focuses on the people behind the language. The best French teacher I've ever had said, on many occasions, "Sortez de vos manuels de classe et rappelez-vous qu'il y a de vraies personnes qui parlent français !"
