"Hi! I'm Ruby. I'm a Music Major at the University of South Alabama, and a member of the USA Honors College. I have been playing violin for 16 years, and have been teaching for a little over three years. I love teaching and watching my students learn and grow as violinists and as musicians.

My teaching style is fun and relaxed, with a focus on finding the joy in music. I teach a variety of styles and techniques, catered to my students' interests. During lessons we work on reading music, skills and techniques, repertoire, music theory, and composition. I like to include basic theory and composition in my lessons because these are key skills in becoming a well-rounded musician. Music theory enables students to collaborate with others in a multitude of situations, from orchestras to church bands to backyard jam sessions. Composition is often my students' favorite part of the lesson, as it allows for exploration and freedom of expression, while improving technical skills and building confidence.

Students of mine will always have a voice in choosing what pieces they play and setting goals for the future. I believe that when students take ownership of their learning, it empowers and motivates them to improve.

I support my students in all their performance endeavors, and am happy to assist them with any and all performance repertoire, whether they are working on solo recital material, orchestra pieces, or band setlists.

Over the years, I have been trained in multiple styles and genres of playing, and have performed in a variety of settings, from weddings to orchestra concerts to Celtic ensembles. I always teach students the reasons behind why we do things the way we do, and I love to give examples of how each technique or skill can improve their sound.

Message me to schedule a lesson today! I am always happy to further discuss my teaching methods to determine compatibility with my future students." less...
