"For the past two years I have been the Program Manager and Development Director of a cat shelter in Colorado Springs, a no-kill rescue. When I started my position at the shelter, there was no grant writer on volunteer or staff. I began grant writing for the shelter in 2015, and have since been able to receive over $50,000 in grant funding for the shelter. I noticed that this organization needed a grant program, and needed to have the capacity for development.

In May, I will be graduating from Johns Hopkins University with a Master’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management. This degree has allowed for me to experience a quality education from nonprofit leaders, highlighting the importance of management within nonprofits, analyzing financial reports, and marketing for donations and grants.

Since I’ve worked in nonprofits, I’ve made a commitment to work for organizations that have integrity, transparency, and the potential to view social issues from a broader scope.

Prior to working at the cat shelter, I worked in customer service for 10 years as a supervisor overseeing up to 20 employees. As a manager, I enjoyed the administrative aspects of business as well as being around people. I was able to successfully manage employees, daily operations, and finances.

I believe that the purpose of our lives is reflected in how we treat those around us, especially those without a voice of their own. The cat shelter provides a safe, caring, and responsible environment for rescued cats in our community and I am honored to have been able to work for them.
