"I am a retired teacher with a love for teaching. During my teaching career I have tutored many students who were having difficulties in school. I spent over 10 years working with kindergarten students and teaching the basic curriculum mandated by Ohio Department of Education. I have also taught first and second grade, and worked with Title 1 students. During my career I have also worked with elementary students for test preparation through various after school tutoring programs.

My specialist would be teaching struggling students to read and to read for content. I am very familiar with the Fundations beginning reading program as well as S.F.A (Success for All) program. Although I enjoy tutoring in language arts I can also tutor in most elementary math programs, especially K-3. I am familiar with Central Math, Everyday Math and Envisions. Since I am a mature adult, grandmother figure most student are comfortable with working with me. I have also worked with a few home schooled students. I love watching the confidence grow in students as they explore learning one on one with me.

I have 22 years teaching and during those years I have spent many of those years working as a tutor through the school system I worked for and also through No Child Left Behind era.

I have a masters in literacy and also a K-12 reading endorsement.

I have spent many years with the Fundations reading phonics program and with the SFA reading program. Teaching kindergarten you spend the first part of the year with reading readiness which is the basic of phonemic awareness and phonics.

Teaching students phonics which leads into all the different things a student can go to decode a word helps with the spelling.
