"I have a very diverse education comprised of several branches of sciences. My basic degree is in Physics with Mathematics and Chemistry as my ancillary subjects. I also received rigorous training in accounting and business management. I have a Masters’ degree in Advanced Physics with specializations in Solid State Physics, Optics and Astrophysics. I continued my education in the field of biophysics/biochemistry and I was awarded a PhD with specialization in Structural Biology of Plants and Microbes. My postdoctoral research at UMASS Medical School is in the field of Virology where I discovered a novel molecular mechanism utilized by the HIV virus for its maturation and survival. This discovery has now led to the design of new HIV drugs which are currently used in the clinics.
I subsequently accepted a teaching and research position at the Commonwealth Medical College where I continued my profession as a research advisor and course director. In addition to continuing my research in Virology, I also included breast cancer to my research focus to elucidate the underlying specific molecular pathogenesis that lead to tumors. I have supervised graduate research and undergraduate honors projects.
I have held leadership roles in the pharmaceutical industry for over two years. I have over 25 peer-reviewed publications in journals with high impact factors. I also have several years of experience in working closely with medical students and their challenges. I have served in various Executive Committees that oversee student recruitment and education. Therefore, I can be a major source of knowledge and career guidance to students who are considering research or medical professions.
I started my teaching profession when I was in graduate school at Indian Institute of Science where I served as a student mentor for junior graduates in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. This experience was instrumental to my later success as a teacher at premier medical institutions in the Nation. I have" less...
